10 Books Sure to Spice Up Your End of Summer Reading!

Fall is a great time to curl up with a good book! Lis has outlined 10 of her favorite books for adult reading this fall. Best part....Blossburg Memorial Library has them all. Happy reading!

  1. Mexican Gothic, a novel by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. A twist on the classic gothic horror novel, this takes place in glamourous 1950s Mexico. Starts a bit slow, but hold on, becomes a wild ride!
  1. Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson: Did you see the recent movie? A true story of justice and redemption. Bryan Stevenson has been called America’s Mandela. Injustice is not easy to see when it affects people different from ourselves – wake up and read this moving story.
  1. Dear Edward, a novel by Ann Napolitano: The sole survivor of a tragedy struggles to find his place in the world. When you’ve lost everything, how do you find the strength to go on and find meaning in life? 
  1. The Guest List, a novel by Lucy Foley: Secrets, motives, murder on a creepy island off the coast of Ireland. Characters’ pasts and red herrings will keep you guessing until the end.
  1. The Orphan’s Tale, a novel by Pam Jenoff: Friendship set in a travelling circus during WW II. Strong women, sacrifice and survival. I read this a few years ago and the story has stayed with me.
  1. Girl, Stop Apologizing, by Rachel Hollis. By the author of immensely popular Girl, Wash Your Face, comes this motivational book that encourages women to embrace their, “what if…?” Time to pursue your dreams on your own terms!
  1. The Girl from Widow Hills, a novel by Megan Miranda: Just when you think you’ve figured it out, there’s another twist! A suspenseful page-turner and fun read!
  1. The Moment of Lift, by Melinda Gates. When we lift others up, they lift us up too. Hear Melinda’s stories and lessons learned from the inspiring people she’s met during her work and travels around the world. How can we create a society where we all want to lift up women especially? Because lifting up women lifts up humanity!

One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd, a novel by Jim Fergus: Based on an actual historical event but told through fictional diaries, this is the story of a remarkable woman who travels west in 1875 and marries the chief of the Cheyenne Nation. A bit far-fetched but vivid, descriptive and engaging.
