Summer is a great time to pick up a book! Below Lis Miranda from the Blossburg Memorial Library recommends some of her favorites for summer reading!

Here’s a list of 10 books I recommend in no particular order – something for everybody – some recent, some not. All of these are books that the Blossburg Memorial Library has. Happy reading!

  1. American Dirt, a novel by Jeanine Cummins: Migrants. What is their story, what are they running from and what are they running to? A timely tale of sacrifice and hope which will leave readers changed!
  1. Mr. Mercedes (actually, the full Bill Hodges Trilogy which also includes Finders Keepers and End of Watch), by Stephen King: Lovable unlikely heroes trying to stop a diabolical killer. Part crime drama, part supernatural thriller, these were quick and fun reads!
  1. Where the Crawdads Sing, a novel by Delia Owens: A coming-of-age crime drama about a girl growing up alone in marshes in North Carolina. I visualized such lovely flora and fauna reading this!
  1. Call of the Wild, by Jack London: Did you see the movie? This is better. A classic. Dog meets world. Survival of the fittest. See the world through a dog’s eyes until you understand the call of the wild.
  1. The Widows of Malabar Hill, by Sujata Massey: A historical mystery set in India in the days of the British Empire. Fascinating insights into culture at the time featuring a strong, sympathetic heroine.
  1. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, by Suzanne Collins: Did you read the Hunger Games books? If so, you’ll want to read this! Follow the story of a young Coriolanus Snow and learn how he eventually developed into the president you know and hate.
  1. The Conference of the Birds, by Ransom Riggs: Did you know that the story of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children continues? This is the fifth book in the series. Follow the mystery and enjoy the pictures! It’s ok for adults to enjoy these young adult books!
  1. Letters from an Astrophysist, by Neil deGrasse Tyson: Who doesn’t love Neil deGrasse Tyson? For an astrophysicist, he’s a relatable and likeable guy! Enjoy his funny and passionate correspondence with people looking for answers and maybe, just maybe, your questions about science, faith, philosophy and life will be answered too.
  1. Year of the Monkey, by Patti Smith: A year in the life of singer-songwriter, musician, author and poet Patti Smith. Enjoy this tale of exploring and exploits told in a very creative, poetic way.

All the Ways We Said Goodbye by Beatriz Williams, Lauren Willig and Karen White: Three authors team up to tell the tales of three women whose fates are joined by one legendary hotel (the Ritz Paris) from 1914-1964. Romance, danger, mystery, twists, this book has it all!
